From Ditches to Riches
and achieving extraordinary results
This is how my business journey started at the early age of 10.
As I think back to the days when I was a little boy, my parents had absolutely no money, to the extent where they could not even afford to buy me school shoes and I was tired of getting mocked at school, because my parents were poor. Instead of complaining about it, I decided to figure out how to make my own money. I pursued anything that could provide me with income, from selling vegetables next to the road to owning my own neighborhood lawn mowing service with some friends, to now where I own and manage 3 successful businesses. I started my first “formal” business in 2007, sleeping on the floor in the lounge of a small flat and a wife that was 6 months pregnant not knowing how we were going to afford having a kid. I was inspired by a book I read called “RICH DAD POOR DAD” by Robert Kiyosaki, and OH BOY did that book light a spark. Since then I started many other businesses, ranging from selling generic perfumes, paving manufacturing, website design etc. And after years of making and breaking 8 businesses I finally found my chi and built my first big business in the technology sector.
Many years down and I am financially better off than many of those kids that mocked me, but only because I educated myself daily in Business and Entrepreneurship and still do including formal education (e.g. Potch Business School), informal (e.g. Robert Kiyosaki seminars), self study (I have read a considerable amount of books) and online courses e.g (Lynda.com). Over the last few years, I have spent over R400k on educating myself in business, and it paid itself back many times over. I finally reached the place where my businesses serve me and I don’t serve them, a place where they fulfill my values (education, time with family, travel and wealth creation). I have reached the point where I can travel to Europe for weeks at a time and the businesses continue to operate, grow and make money. I have been using the services of business coaches for the past 5 years, and without a doubt it would have taken double the amount of effort and most likely another few failed attempts before I reached this point.
From Hobby to Profession
I have a passion for entrepreneurship, I love what I do and always find true happiness in helping others reach their goals, both for themselves and their businesses.
I have years of experience in marketing, starting and building new businesses, breaking businesses, technology, business automation etc. I have “failed” many times, but learnt a valuable lesson each time I did and now spend my days helping others learn from my mistakes to shortcut their road to success. Coaching other entrepreneurs started a few years ago when friends asked me to help them start their businesses. At the time I offered it for free and enjoyed it immensely helping others. I did notice, however, that because it was free they didn’t value the business coaching as much as they should have, missing appointments, not completing in between session work and so on. I was paying R3 000 per hour for the exact same service, and if I didn’t complete my work in between sessions, I was not allowed back until I did. What do you think my commitment level was like compared to the guys that got it for free? That's when I started educating myself on the psychology of the human mind, and how to use it in a coaching environment. I have since then completed many business coaching certifications, the biggest being one of the first affiliate business coach at SA Business Coaches after 300 hours of training and studying.
